John Lee Gaddy founded the company in 1953 as a small tobacco distributor in the town of Hickory Grove, SC
In 1985, his nephew, Bill Wilkerson took over the company when John Lee became ill. Bill expanded the company's offerings to include groceries, snacks, candy, and other convenience store items. His daughter Leanne Jennings began working in the family business in 2007 and his son William Wilkerson joined in 2009. Bill's dedication to his business, commitment to success, and caring nature towards his work family and customers contributed to JL Gaddy's growth.
Bill Wilkerson, after a brief struggle with cancer, passed away in March 2024. He had been a dedicated member of the company for 50 years showing up before 3am to a company he truly loved. Presently, Leanne Jennings serves as President and William Wilkerson as Vice President. They continue to advance the company by the principles and values instilled by their father, Bill. He championed hard work, consistent presence, and wholehearted dedication, while emphasizing the significance of integrity and prioritizing customer satisfaction.
